California! Knows how to party! California! Knows how to party!
Tupac said it best yall! In the city of L.A. the BET Awards After Party at the Belasco Theater was Kevin Hart “turnt up.” The house was packed with beautiful people smilin’ and laughin’ and celebratin’ the accomplishments of their friends and musical colleagues.
Instead of keeping up with the you know who’s…I was keeping up with Vanessa A. Williams. She was rocking the red carpet with her pretty self and had a lot to say about the awards show.
“I didn’t know girlfriend [India Arie] was gonna set it off like that, Williams said. “It was fantastic hearing those wonderful songs coming out of the mouths of Stevie Wonder and Jamie Foxx. That’s the thing that’s so marvelous and universal about music, it’s the soundtrack of our lives.”
There were ballers, shot callers, and of course B-Ballers representing their set on the red carpet. Brandon Bass of the Boston Celtics stopped by to chill for a minute to tell us about his favorite performance of the evening.
“Uncle Charlie’s performance was great, very entertaining,” Bass said.
So, seeing as though Uncle Charlie’s performance was the fan favorite among most red carpet attendees [and also the recipient of the Cadillac Lifetime Achievement Award] I asked Bass who his second favorite was.
“I would have to say, both J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar had great performances, “Bass said.
As the night wore on the beautiful Temple Poteat came by to say hello with a waist so small I felt compelled to ask her if she had eaten anything today. “Yes!” Poteat said laughing out loud, “I eat everything.”
Lo and behold the FIRST African American male super model Tyson Beckford came through and blessed us with his presence and let us know what he was about to do for the rest of the evening.
“I’m about to turn up!” Beckford shouted with the pearliest white teeth I had ever seen in my life.
This man would look good in a Ralphs paper bag, so you know I had to ask him what he does to stay in shape.
“I jump a lot of rope, a lot of ab work-outs, and I use the Beckford push-up bar which is slated to come out this year,” Beckford affirmed.
Finally, full of energy, Love and Hip Hop Atlanta reality star Karlie Redd slid through wearing a beautiful Dolce & Gabana dress.
The attention she received was so intense that R&B artist Bobby Valentino couldn’t resist and managed to slip his arm around her waist almost without her even noticing.
Redd looked at him and smiled back at me and said, “Now, where were we?”
We both laughed but already distracted by this time, Redd left the red carpet and entered the club.
“You Karlie, friend?” Valentino asked with the cutest smile. “Naw, bruh,” I said, “I don’t know her like that.”
“Okay,” he replied and politely proceeded to follow her.
And the night ended just like that, the same way it started.
