On Monday, March 30, the Chris Paul Family Foundation opened a newly refurbished Watts Willowbrook Boys & Girls Club with assistance from the Los Angeles Clippers Foundation and other corporate partners. The event included a press conference featuring Chris Paul and family, Willowbrook Boys & Girls Club Director Chantez Moore and local city officials.
Located in the Watts, Willowbrook and Compton area of Los Angeles, The Roy W. Roberts II Watts Willowbrook Boys & Girls Club will receive much needed access to technology, books and furniture for the more than 1,000 children from 7 to 18 years old that actively visit the center.
The refurbishment includes an overhaul of the library, stocking it with books and a computer room consisting of new computers, a SMART Board, e-readers and tablets. The teen center and game room were also restored, including furniture, video games with consoles, game tables and televisions as well as an update to the gym with new wall padding and flooring enhancements.
In 2005, Chris Paul established the CP3 Foundation, in honor of his late grandfather to provide scholarships for high school graduates to attend Wake Forest University. Chris’ emphasis on community involvement has won the CP3 Foundation the NBA’s Community Assist Award four times. In 2015 the name of the foundation will formerly change to the Chris Paul Family Foundation.
The foundation’s initiatives include partnerships with Feed The Children, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Boys & Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity, and LA’s Best. The foundation also sponsors and supports literacy initiatives, youth basketball clinics, court refurbishments and adaptive athletic programs for special needs children.
The Los Angeles Clippers Foundation exists to foster and support community outreach programs and activities with positive educational, civic, environmental and humanitarian values that benefit and enhance the quality of life primarily for children in greater Los Angeles. To meet these commitments, the foundation will seek, accept and donate funds and in-kind items to support community outreach programs and initiatives of local children’s charities and organizations.
