Fashion rules in Los Angeles. So does the hot summer months. With summer officially in full swing, fashion wear for the next few months has already begun. And so has the endless line of fashion exhibitions.
The recently held “Fashion on the Real” Real Fashion event at the La Fonda Supper Club, gave a peek to fashion aficionados to some of the coolest and chic wears for the summer.
The lavish fashion event was held to help benefit Dare U to Care, a little known charity that offers residential housing and counseling to homeless men and women with children displaced by drug addiction, physical abuse or the prison system in the greater Los Angeles area.
The nonprofit organization feeds more than 1,000 children in the L.A. area and provides a spiritual base job re-training and education program for residents who are re-entering society. Many of the residents are ordered by the state to go through the program.
The program is a 12-step, social model therapeutic community with an emphasis on continued education and occupation retraining.
“It was a huge success,” said Betrice Coleman-Sweet. “Not only was there great fashion and entertainment, money was raised for a worthy cause.”

Designers Shekhar Rahate Couture, Purple Diva Designs, and Tutto Italy Connection participated in the event that featured fashion for full-figured women and eye-catching red carpet gowns and wedding dresses. Shoe designers such as Bad AZZ Shoes also contributed to the night’s apparel explosion.
Among those attending the “Fashion on the Real” event were stuntwoman April Weeden Washington, Reigndrop Lopes (sister of TLC member Lisa “Lefteye” Lopes) and Kaitlyn Melton (Scooby-Doo!: The Mystery Begins).
