There will never be another group who danced and sing their way into our hearts the way Michael, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon Jackson did. Better known as the best dancing quintet ever in the history of pop music history, the Jackson 5 did their thing and then some, including jumping into all facets of the entertainment industry, taking other artists under their wing while lasting music of their own.
Back in the day when they were young and cuddly, the Gary, Indiana natives made hearts swoon from all over the globe with their cute smiles, booming afro hairstyle, and the infectious dance grooves they churned out as bright-eyed adolescents. The group was such a national and international hit with young and old fans alike that Hollywood eventually came knocking on their door.
With that endeavor on their doorsteps, Michael, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon took on the one form that sure to make them an even bigger attraction with young people: they went animation. Riding the crest of the group’s early megahits like “I Want You Back,” “ABC” and “I’ll Be There,” the Jackson 5 gained even more fans when their Saturday morning animated series made its debut in the fall of 1971.
Of course, like their music, the series was a hit as it weaved in the artistry of the group’s funky music sound and incorporated their likeness in animation with cool, real-life scenarios any kid can identify with. And now the series is back for a new generation to follow.
For the FIRST-TIME EVER the complete animated Jackson 5ive TV series, including 23 FULL-LENGTH EPISODES and 46 ORIGINAL JACKSON 5IVE SONGS, is available to fans everywhere! The Jackson 5ive TV series, produced by Rankin/Bass and Motown Productions, originally aired on ABC from September 11, 1971 through October 14, 1972, and was loosely based on the life of the Jackson 5ive band members, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael, and their manager, Berry Gordy.
Maybe you remember the episodes’ featured Jackson 5ive songs and storylines where the band is challenged and faced with adversity. The cartoon paid homage to the band’s musical influences with hidden references, and helped to transcend color and gender barriers of its time.
Jackson 5ive: The Complete Animated Series will be available on DVD ($32.99), and as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack ($39.99), beginning January 15th, 2013.
