The San Diego Chargers unveiled the 2014 Charger Girls today, the 28-member dance squad was selected from among nearly 300 talented hopefuls.

“I was really impressed with the deep pool of talent that auditioned for this year’s team,” Charger Girls Director Lisa Simmons said. “We had to make some tough decisions to select the final 28 girls. That strong competition has ensured we’ll have one of our finest squads ever.”

Dancers from across the nation showed up Sunday for preliminary auditions. From the first round of auditions, 71 finalists were selected to move on to panel interviews and a final dance routine.  The final squad was chosen Thursday night at the end of the five-day audition process.

The squad is made up of women with a variety of backgrounds and ranged in age from 18 to 31. There are 14 returning veterans and 14 first-time Charger Girls. Sixteen of the 28 members are students, including three from San Diego State University and two identical twins from the University of Arizona.

The group includes a dental assistant, project administrator, legal assistant and elementary school teacher.  The roster also includes 12 native San Diegans and one dancer from Sheffield, England.
