EL SEGUNDO, CA-Being a Laker Girl means a lot of things. it means prestige. It means Hollywood, glitz and glamour. It is reflective of the community commitment the team has for its outreach. It also means being part of the one of the most prestigious sports organizations on the planet!

That’s why hundreds of young women from all over California and beyond come out every year to hopefully claim the title of being part of the Laker Girls dance and cheer team. On Saturday, July 12, the line was long and swooped around the team’s facility in El Segundo, California.

Some dancers, admittedly, were nervous about the process. To some, the daylong tryout was old hat. There were dancers who had danced for other professional sports teams but have always wanted the opportunity to dance for the Lakers, the same Lakers that have claimed to 16 NBA championships.

Smiles and excitement abounded for many, even though they failed to make the first cut of the audition. The ladies (and some gentlemen) were just grateful to have a chance to showcase their dance skills. It was fun work to some, an opportunity to gauge where their talent level and they can improve for the next go around.
