Walnut, CA-Mt. Sac plays a great game on both sides of ball to bring home another ring to California football powerhouse. City College of San Francisco represented the north well in hard fought 27-17 lost. There were many big plays by a team that had winning tradition bringing this fourth State Championship (2010, 2009, & 1997).
Quarterback Justin Alo passed for 283 yards and ran in for a pair of touchdowns. This performance was enough to win game MVP, from Alo former Carson High School standout. This was a second chance for success after Alo left University of Hawaii to play for the Mountaineers. Wide Receiver Derrick Macon was named offensive game MVP with 120 yards receiving and a long of 56 yards. Alo spread the ball around to seven different receivers during this game. “We had to overcome adversity,” said Alo. “We weren’t even supposed to be in the playoffs.”
The game after first quarter was tied up 3-3, by halftime Mt. Sac held slim 13-10 lead. The stingy Mt. San Antonio College defense intercepted three passes and totaled five sacks before the game was over. San Francisco was kept under 100 yards rushing for the game with 97 yards. This team found a way to battle all game and put their offense in place to be victories.
This game will allow Mt. Sac to go from ranked No. 4 at the start of the playoffs narrowly beating out Long Beach CC by a point in power rankings, to now #1 and the RING to show for it. The Mountaineers and Coach Bob Jastrab was all smiles after this game. After the trophy presentation the whole team darted to North end of stadium to pose with the banners and scoreboard to cap the off victory.
