NCCU Athletics Unveils ‘Era of Excellence’ Strategic Plan

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University Department of Athletics unveiled its new ‘Era of Excellence’ strategic plan on Sunday (Aug. 2), which will guide and propel the department through the year 2025.

“As we enter our 10th anniversary as an NCAA Division I member, our new ‘Era of Excellence’ strategic plan will provide us with a clear roadmap to continue moving the program towards meeting our goals of becoming a premier athletics and Football Championship Subdivision program,” said NCCU Director of Athletics Dr. Ingrid Wicker McCree.

“This plan reaffirms our commitment to the University and Department of Athletics mission focusing on student-centered success,” McCree added. “I am so very proud of our athletics staff, student-athletes, university leaders, alumni and supporters for providing insight and feedback to help shape and mold our plan into a living document that will guide our daily actions, always keeping our student-athletes first.”

The NCCU Department of Athletics Strategic Plan 2020-2025 represents the culmination of work for more than a year by a planning committee comprised of representatives from the NCCU Department of Athletics and other campus units. Input gathered from a host of focus groups and individual stakeholders, to include student-athletes, faculty, staff, student leaders, campus administrators, alumni, former student-athletes, corporate partners, athletics donors and community leaders, represents the department’s commitment to inclusivity and will shape the future of NCCU Athletics.

The NCCU Athletics Strategic Plan is closely aligned with the university’s 2019-2024 strategic plan, and provides goals and detailed objectives echoing the university’s commitment to student success and unprecedented institutional growth.

Guided by the stated vision, “To be a premier athletics department that produces champions in academics, athletics and leadership,” the strategic plan establishes a foundation in core values of integrity, fairness, civility, responsibility and inclusiveness, while focusing on goals to deliver student-athlete success, athletic achievement, financial responsibility and collaborative partnerships.

The NCCU Athletics Strategic Plan will be benchmarked, monitored and measured annually, prioritizing the financial resources needed to execute the plan successfully.
