BLM leader under fire for Smollett support

Former “Empire” star Jussie Smollett had his day in court. It was not a good day for Smollett as he was convicted on five counts of staging a fake hate crime assault. That didn’t seem to detract some of his supporters from continuing to root for him.

That being said, a Black Lives Matter leader took that support to another level, which has come under intense scrutiny. Lisa Simpson, a prominent Los Angeles community activist and mother of Richard Risher who was shot and killed by an LAPD officer on July 25, 2016, calls for Black Lives Matter Los Angeles leader Dr. Melina Abdullah to resign for her continued public support of entertainer Jussie Smollett.

Smollett allegedly staged a hate attack against himself in 2019 to get publicity and a better salary.

Abdullah, the co-founder of BLM’s Los Angeles chapter, went on social media and insisted that “we can never believe police” And said that the jury should free Smollett – “It’s not about a trial or a verdict decided in a white supremacist charade, it’s about how we treat our community when corrupt systems are working to devalue their lives.”

She also tweeted, “We must courageously love and protect one another and always remember that POLICE LIE. We love you Jussie! #JussieSmollett #PoliceLie #CopsLie @CoalitionJussie.”

“Melina Abdullah is obviously a moron who has lost any credibility she had left,” Simpson said in a statement. “She should not be in any role of leadership in the Black community. Abdullah is encouraging the public support of Smollett who is now a convicted criminal. This sends a horrible message to society, especially our youth.

“I am publicly calling for her to resign from BLM LA which under her leadership has raised money off the murders of Black people but has no accountability or transparency in how those funds are used.”

Simpson wasn’t finished as she continued to rebuke Abdullah and BLM.

“BLM has a reputation of conning corporations and people out of millions of dollars that should have been used to help the parents of those killed by police. Abdullah is well known to be anti-police and called for the police to be de-funded.

“But when she alleged, she was the victim of spousal abuse the first people she called for help were not her fellow activists. It was the LAPD who came to her residence at the time. Abdullah’s continued support of Smollett saying the police lie but she doesn’t have a problem calling them when she needs them is the greatest hypocrisy, she should step down immediately from BLM LA,” stated Simpson.

Of course, Abdullah would not be the firebrand activist that she is without hitting back at her critics in another tweet.

In regards to Smollett, experts have reportedly said it is unlikely he’ll see any time behind bars because of his clean criminal record. Probation is the likely outcome. Smollett’s attorneys are expected to appeal their client’s conviction.
