James, Lakers No. 1 in merch, jersey sales

(News4usonline) – On the court, the Los Angeles Lakers are struggling. Away from it, the Lakers are doing just fine when it comes to merchandise and jersey sales. Since the Lakers are the gold standard when it comes to NBA franchises, that should come as no surprise.

The Lakers won the club’s 17th NBA title a couple of years ago. Since then, things have gone wayward for LeBron James and the rest of the crew. Last season, they got bounced from the playoffs by the Phoenix Suns. This season, with the addition of Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony, the first half of this season has not been so kind.

The Lakers are currently holding down the No. 8 spot in the Western Conference, barely fighting off the Los Angeles Clippers, who are nipping at their heels as the No. 9 seed. The Lakers are playing below the .500 level (.489) and trail the Pacific Division-leading Suns by 14.5 games, and we still have not gotten to the league’s All-Star break yet.

But all news is not bad news for James and the Lakers. At least they’re winning off the court. James and Anthony Davis are among the league’s players with top-selling jerseys. James, playing in his 19th season, is at the top of the food chain with the most popular jersey. Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry is No. 2.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, who led the Milwaukee Bucks to the NBA title last year, is seated at No. 3, while Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant is holding firm at the No. 4 position in jersey sales. Despite the not-so-great play of his team this season, James is having a remarkable year.

Thus far, for the season James is putting up 29 points, 7.7 rebounds and a shade over six assists per game.

Meanwhile, Davis, the counterpart to James, has missed a great number of games due to an injury he suffered earlier in the season. Without question, the return of Davis will bolster the Lakers’ offensive attack and lift some of the pressure off of James. The jersey sales of Davis have the power forward and center listed at No. 12.

As far as what NBA team moving stuff off the racks, the Lakers come in at No. 1. The Lakers are tops when it comes down to selling the most merchandise.
