Paul and Suns on borrowed time to win NBA title

(News4usonline) – There is a strong possibility that Chris Paul and the Phoenix Suns can win the NBA championship this season. If they don’t succeed in winning it all, it would be a travesty for all parties involved. For Paul, who has never won a title in his lengthy and illustrious career, this just might be his last stand in finally making that momentous quest.

During the NBA’s regular season, it looked as if Paul and the Suns would be a runaway for the NBA title. That’s because Paul and the Suns posted the league’s best record with a 64-18 mark, a team clearly head and shoulders above everyone else. Besides their stunning regular season record, Paul and the Suns have a couple of things going in their favor.

First up, Phoenix has the best head coach in the NBA in Monty Williams. The Suns have Paul, the league’s ultimate do-it-all point guard, and they have the silent closer in the mercurial Devin Booker.

The Suns went to the NBA Finals last season where they wound up losing to the Milwaukee Bucks to end the season as the league’s second-best team. Paul and the Suns are not interested in being second fiddle again. Since they are the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, Phoenix has the ability and the personnel to repeat their NBA Finals appearance from a year ago.

That should not be too hard to do given the fact that the Suns were the Alpha team in the Pacific Division, the Western Conference and in the NBA with their stout record.

The Suns have a chance to win the NBA title for the first time in the history of their franchise. In some regards, they deserve to win because they’ve never won a championship. However, this year could be their year.

With their number of wins during the regular season, the Suns became favorites to win the championship, though those chances dipped when Booker got injured early in the first round of the playoffs. The Suns are going to have to deal with Booker’s injury and do the best they can.

So far so good. After being out a couple of games, Booker came back and Phoenix was able to put away the pesky New Orleans Pelicans in six games to advance to the second round of the playoffs.

The Lakers, however, would get the last laugh. Los Angeles jumped out to a 43-17 first quarter lead against Phoenix en route to posting a 117-107 win at Staples Center.

The Suns need their best players in Paul, Booker and Deandre Ayton to step up their game in order to move past the Dallas Mavericks into the Western Conference Finals.

That’s how they can win the title. Paul, Booker and Ayton are their Big Three. Unfortunately, if one of the Suns’ Big Three suffers an injury, I am not sure if they can the title. When Booker suffered a hamstring injury in the first game of the postseason against the Pelicans that was a scary moment.

It was tough going for the Suns to win games against the Pelicans. With Booker sidelined, Paul and the Suns struggled against New Orleans. Booker eventually returned and now all things are good. For now. Paul and the Suns took care of business in Game 1 against the Mavericks, handing Dallas a 121-114 road defeat.

If Phoenix were to make it through the West and get to the NBA Finals and actually win the title, the narrative about will change.

According to brightsideofthesun, “If the Suns win a ring, the history of Paul and Book will change retroactively. If the Suns win a ring, people will remember Paul and Book as the superstars they are.”

This is the reason the Suns need to win. The Suns should stop making any excuses about having trouble winning even with Booker injured.

According to  azcentral, “If they don’t, this will be the most heartbreaking, painful and agonizing ending to a year the Suns have ever experienced.”

Speaking of overcoming injuries, Milwaukee was forced to overcome the loss of Giannis Antetokounmpo to a knee injury last season during the Eastern Conference finals. Despite their star player’s injury, the Bucks went on to win the last two games against the Atlanta Hawks because other players like Kris Middleton stepped up their play.

Fortunately for the Suns, Booker did not have to miss his team’s first game against the Mavericks. Paul needs to win this championship. He has never won an NBA title. Even though Paul has no plan to retire any time soon, this could be it as far as the All-Star point guard being presented with a viable opportunity to win a championship.
