Dodgers load the bases with All-Stars

(News4usonline) – The Los Angeles Dodgers will have five players to represent the franchise during the 2023 MLB All-Star Game. Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, and J.D. Martinez were voted to the National League All-Star team as starters. Clayton Kershaw and Will Smith were added to the NL roster to make up the number of players the Dodgers will have at the 93rd Midsummer Classic.

For the record, by being added to the National League roster, Kershaw is making his 10th appearance at an All-Star Game. Only Pee Wee Reese has had as many All-Star nods as Kershaw in franchise history, a pretty big honor considering all of the legendary names and Hall of Famers that have played for the Dodgers.

The All-Star accolades for Kershaw mean he has more appearances than any Dodger pitcher. That list includes Don Sutton, Don Drysdale, the great Sandy Koufax, Fernando Venuzelua, and Don Newcombe. Kershaw is having another one of his spectacular seasons. At the time he was added to the NL All-Star team, Kershaw had recorded a 10-4 mark to go along with a 2.55 E.R.A.

He won’t be the only Dodger with the All-Star spotlight shining on him. Making his fourth All-Star start and seventh appearance at the Midsummer Classic, Betts has been having a heck of a season so far, connecting for 20 home runs. Betts has recorded eight lead-off home runs. And we’re just midway into the 2023 regular season.

Freeman is on par with Betts when it comes to the number of All-Star appearances. He has seven as does his Los Angeles teammate. This is Freeman’s second All-Star appearance as a Dodger. The longtime first baseman is batting .317 with 14 home runs and has 49 runs driven in.
