Dodgers snag two from Cardinals

LOS ANGELES-The Dodgers got the best of the St. Louis Cardinals-this time. The Cardinals, a longtime detriment to the Dodgers in the postseason, found themselves on the short end of the stick in two of the three games they played against Los Angeles.

For at least this weekend series, the Dodgers showed they can hang with the pitching elitism of the Cardinals. That hasn’t always been the case. Two years ago, the Dodgers were ousted by the Cardinals, 3-1, in the NL Division Series.

The year before, the Dodgers were bounced out of the postseason by St. Louis, going down in six games in the NL Championship Series.

The Dodgers’ bats came alive in Game 1, thanks to 11 hits, including a home run by Yasiel Puig, to pound the Cardinals 8-4. In Game 2, pitcher Scott Kazmir picked up his third win of the season after he and Kenley Jansen limited the Cardinals to just five hits and three run in the Dodgers’ 5-3 victory.

It was Jansen’s 13th save of the year so far.

The Dodgers hitting well then went dry in the third game as the Cardinals prevailed 5-2. Both the Dodgers and Cardinals now have identical won-loss records of 20-18 after the three-game series.
