Los Angeles Clippers backup point guard Eric Bledsoe was known as one of the most athletic players in college. There’s no denying that he’s still meeting those standards in the NBA. After playing alongside Clippers starting point guard and team leader Chris Paul, Bledsoe is learning how to become an All-Star.
Bledsoe see Paul as a mentor and teacher. Both players have been very fortunate to have one another. Bledsoe’s game has improved dramatically since joining forces with Paul, and he didn’t hesitate when asked if Paul’s presence has affected his game.
“He’s helped me a lot,” said Bledsoe. “You can’t tell? He has shown poise and patience for the game. I’ve learned so much just by watching him play.”
There’s no competition between the two point guards they both have a high level of respect for one another.
“He’s helping me a lot,” said Paul. I’m learning from him.”
We’re witnessing Bledsoe flourish into a dynamic point guard before our eyes. Bledsoe’s player efficiency rating has shot up to 22.87, which makes him the 13th best player in the league, according to the Los Angeles Times. Hard work, dedication, time and patience have been the key to his success; he’s appeared to be more patient with his shot selections and playing better defense.
He’s also has turned himself into a gym rat. There are always late night pictures popping up on social networks of Bledsoe in the gym. This proves that he wants to get better and understands that just showing up for practice won’t make you a better player. If you want to be great, you’ve to put the extra work in.
“When I’m in the gym I’m working on all aspects of my game,” Bledsoe said. I want to improve my game in every way, so I’m always working after hours.”
The Clippers are having one of their best seasons ever, and a lot of people who weren’t watching the team beforehand, are tuning in now. I’m sure half of the followers had no clue that Bledsoe was a hot commodity. But because of the Clippers winning ways, they’re getting more attention than expected. Even though Bledsoe is the backup point guard on the team, he can play and fill in the stat sheet like a starter.
Bledsoe has the potential to be a very special person in his league. According to Miami Heat’s star Lebron James, Bledsoe is another version of who he is. James has labeled Bledsoe as “Baby Lebron” and you know what that statement could lead to this offseason. Bledsoe will be a free agent, so don’t be shocked if he’s recruited by the original James.
“I’m honored to be recognized by one of the best players in the game, we have a few similarities,” said Bledsoe.
I’m told that teams in the NBA are calling the Clippers trying to get their hands on Bledsoe before the NBA trade deadline. But the Clippers aren’t flirting around with any teams about Bledsoe because Paul isn’t locked in. It’s only right for them to see what Paul wants to do before making any moves on Bledsoe.
“I don’t really pay attention to all the trade rumors,” said Bledsoe.
Teams will be ringing his agent’s phone off the hook this summer. The interesting part is will the Clippers be able to afford both Paul and Bledsoe? Both players are free agents and can walk away this summer. There’s no doubt that the Clippers will do everything in their power to lock Paul in, but letting Bledsoe go will also be a huge blow to the Clippers’ backcourt depth. He will be dangerously missed if that happens.
