Brandon Jennings is a different kind of cat. He’s got flair. He has the perpetual instinct of a cat. He knows how to put on a show. He also knows a thing or two about playing basketball. The standing room-only crowd at the Drew League on Sunday, July 13, would agree with that assessment. Whether he was raining in 3’s from all over the court or driving to the hoop, Jennings made the rest of the Drew League take notice of the little guy that could be and is.
Jennings went off for 56 points against the Kings of LA to lead The Clozers to a 93-92 come-from-behind win in front of a capacity crowd. Jennings, the Compton native who bypassed going going to college for the advancement of professional basketball, really hit his stride in the fourth quarter. You might want to say it was Brandon Jennings unleashed. Portland Trailblazers guard/forward Dorell Wright and The Kings of LA looked like they were going to embarrass Jennings and The Clozers when they staked themselves to a 31-20 lead after the first quarter. The usually vibrant Drew League crowd was almost in a state of comatose by the end of the first quarter.
Of course, that is when Jennings, a 6-foot-1, 170 pound gunner, began to light up the scoreboard. Jennings helped The Clozers outscore the Kings of LA in the second (27-25) and third periods (17-16), before really pouring it on in the Money Quarter. Jennings dropped one long 3-point bomb after after another to get the crowd stoked with excitement.
With the game on the line and his team down a point, Jennings went to the well one final time with another three-point launch. This time he was fouled and calmly sank two of the three free throws he attempted. Jennings fell one point of the 57 points he put up last week at the Drew League.
