The All-Pro safety gives a motivational speech to the football team at the South Los Angeles school
LOS ANGELES (News4usonline) – On the morning of July 22, the Los Angeles Jordan High School football team finished their practice and did not know their day would be full of surprises. One big surprise came when the Los Angeles Chargers Impact Fund and Oakley came together to showcase to the players a renovated weight room and new helmets for the football program.
The Jordan football team and staff walked into the newly remodeled weight room in pure excitement. All of the players were ecstatic and instantly gravitated to the new weight sets and helmets on display.
The players gathered around and were presented with the refurbished weight room by Charger Senior Director of Player Engagement, Arthur HighTower, and Jordan High School’s athletic director Jamie Krueckeberg.
The team then received another surprise. Moments after the unveiling of the new-look weight room, Chargers All-Pro Safety Derwin James Jr. strolled in with Oakley bags in hand. Needless to say, the players went crazy. James spoke to the group of players, “This is one of the big things I wanted to do for y’all, enjoy and celebrate with each other.”
James passed out Oakley sunglasses to all of the players and coaching staff. All of the kids surrounded James as he took the time to speak with the players and take photographs with each of them. James gave a pep talk, motivating the students and encouraging them to work hard this upcoming season.
The staff at Jordan High School were just as excited about the new weight room and equipment as the players. Krueckeberg said he was truly grateful for the Chargers organization in their donation.
“It really means a lot to us – all the students, the staff, and the community because it is going to be open to all our students this year and students in the future. Seeing all the kids today and the pure joy it brought them made it special,” Krueckeberg said.
The Chargers Impact Fund strives to help families and children that need it most across southern California. The fund has awarded over $6 million dollars to public schools and continues to support athletic programs. The Chargers Impact Fund is currently partnered with 10 schools across the region to provide nutrition and athletics programs.
The new and improved facility at Jordan High School should be a space that can be used for generations to come. HOME OF THE BULLDOGS.
