Chris Taylor, Dodgers making an impact off the field

(News4usonline)—For the World Series champs, the feeling is mutual toward the community that adores them on the field. As part of the Dodgers Love L.A. Community Tour, the organization and its players are heavily engaged in their annual service week, giving back to the fans who support them throughout the season.

In recent weeks, the Los Angeles area has been ravaged by wildfires that have left many residents of the city in disarray. Part owner Magic Johnson announced that Guggenheim Baseball Management controlling partner Mark Walter and the Dodgers Foundation are donating $100 million to Southern California wildfire relief and recovery to kick off the week of giving.

The tour consists of ten community events across the Los Angeles area, with the primary goal being to make a positive impact on those in need.

“Every day this week, we have the opportunity to introduce our team to fans all over the city. This year, when the fires hit, we decided to pivot from the tour we had planned, and we committed to making this a tour about service. Being part of the community, being in the community, and giving back to the community are Dodger values that we take very seriously,” said Dodgers Vice President of Government and Community Affairs Kristin McCowan.

One player who is highly familiar with giving back is two-time World Series champion Chris Taylor. As a nine-year member of the team, Taylor has always gone above and beyond for his community, and once again, he is showing why he is regarded as a fan favorite in Los Angeles.

Taylor and his wife Mary hosted an event at Dodgers Stadium on Wednesday for families that are expecting or have recently welcomed a new member to their family. All twenty-five families were impacted by the wildfires and received gift packages courtesy of Nuna, including baby strollers, bassinets, car seats, high chairs, and other newborn essentials.

“I am just happy to be here. Obviously, this is a tough time for all of Los Angeles. I am with you guys, feel for you, and am happy to meet everyone. I have a one-year-old myself, so I am going through it, and it is the best being a dad,” said Taylor.

For as great of a career as Taylor has had in Los Angeles, his impact off the field might extend even further than the 117 home runs he has hit for the team. He and his wife created the CT3 Foundation in 2020 to help “children with cancer and other life-altering medical conditions, and those overcoming other challenging circumstances.”

“We got to meet some new and expecting moms who lost their homes in the fire, and Nuna was kind enough to donate a bunch of baby stuff to all these families. I am just trying to meet all the moms and trying to put a smile on their faces,” said Taylor.

Last year, the CT3 Foundation hosted its first annual Polar Plunge, which featured other members of the team, including Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Will Smith, and Dave Roberts. The event raised over $250,000 as fans enjoyed watching their favorite players dive into the sub-60-degree ocean in Manhattan Beach.

Taylor and his teammates will make their second Polar Plunge appearance on February 2nd.

The 2019 All-Star is looking to bounce back this upcoming season after a down year on the field. Three years removed from scoring 92 runs and hitting 20 home runs, the super utility player struggled at the plate in 2024.

The organization still has faith in Taylor’s talent and hopes he can return to form in 2025. His work ethic is undeniable, and his history of coming through in clutch moments is an ability that does not simply disappear. Still, most of all, Taylor will always be a superstar when it comes to making an impact on the local community.
