Dodgers march on with MLB’s winningest mark

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (News4usonline) – The Los Angeles Dodgers have been so good during the 2022 season that the team has an outside chance of doing the unthinkable. With the season winding down, the Dodgers are on their way to winning 90-plus games for the sixth time under manager Dave Roberts.

Even more remarkable is the fact that the Dodgers will hit 100 wins in a season for the fourth time under Robert’s watch. Those are impressive benchmarks. Getting to 116 wins in a season, something that only the 1906 Chicago Cubs and the 2001 Seattle Mariners have done, would be even more special. Roberts is well aware that the team is chasing history, but that’s not his focus.

His mindset is to lock into the game at hand and let the dominoes lay where they may. If it is meant for the Dodgers to match Major League Baseball’s winningest record in a season, it’ll happen. Meanwhile, Roberts said his task is to put the best players out on the field to help the ballclub win games.

One way Roberts and his team have been successful is largely behind the hitting of his ballclub. The Dodgers have rolled to the best record in MLB due to their ability to come up big when they step up to the plate. Regarding smacking the ball around, the Dodgers are third in hits, No. 1 in runs, and top the league in runs batted in (RBI).

The Dodgers exemplified their hitting prowess against the Milwaukee Brewers at the end of a series sweep with a 12-6 win at Dodger Stadium on Aug. 24. The Dodgers popped out 13 hits. At the end of the fourth inning, the Brewers trailed 9-2 at the end of the fourth inning.

The beauty about the Dodgers offense this season as it has been their practice, not one player dominates. The Dodgers have a host of good players who can collectively get the job done. Let’s look at how the Dodgers beat the Brewers for the second straight game on their mini homestand.

Of the 13 hits they were to generate, the Dodgers had five players smoke two hits in the game. Trea Turner, Justin Turner, Freddie Freeman, Cody Bellinger, and Austin Barnes were the five players to have a multiple-hit night. Barnes had a super night with four runs batted in, scoring a run and smacking a home run into the bleachers.

This is the Dodgers culture. This is the Dodgers way. Winning is what the Dodgers are all about. The Brewers, like the rest of MLB, have run into a buzzsaw in the form of the Dodgers dominating in the win-loss column. After playing in their 123rd game of the season, the record for the Dodgers looped in at 86-37. That’s nearly 70 percent (.697 winning percentage).

Roberts has been the Dodgers skipper, including this season, for seven years. During that time, Roberts and the Dodgers have done nothing but win. Roberts and the Dodgers have won games at a .631 percentage clip in these seven seasons. Despite this success, Roberts and the Dodgers have only one championship, although they have played in the World Series two other times (2017, 2018).

The Dodgers have never missed the postseason under Roberts’ watch. That’s because of the team’s elite hitting and supreme pitching. This year, however, with Max Scherzer gone to the New York Mets, Clayton Kershaw injured and not at his optimal best, and Walker Buehler officially out for the season after having elbow surgery, the Dodgers keep rolling.

Let’s hope they keep it going all the way to another World Series appearance. After piling up a bunch of wins during the regular season and annihilating the competition along the way, it is expected that the Dodgers will hit and pitch their way back to MLB’s big stage.
