New Orleans, LA (News4usOnline) – Three-peat this. There will be no dynasty. The Philadelphia Eagles put all that premature nonsense to bed with their whupping of the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. And it wasn’t really close.
By the end of the game, the Chiefs looked like a team that had no business being on the same field as the Eagles. The Eagles were the superior team. By far. The 40-22 win by the Eagles over the Chiefs was thorough and complete.
Kansas City could only gain one first down and 23 yards of offense in the first half. On the other hand, the Eagles clicked on both sides of the football, producing 345 yards in total offense and coming up with two interceptions and six sacks on defense.

“I think it was a team effort. It was a team effort today. I know we have a lot of popular pieces on offense, but it was a team effort. Defense played unbelievable. We didn’t even have to do too much, because the defense was playing lights-out,” Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown said after the game.
By the end of the first half of Super Bowl LIX, Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, the NFL’s Offensive Player of Year, a nan who rushed for over 2,000 yards during the regular season, totaled just 31 yards and finished the game with 57 yards on the ground.
Barkley gave credit where credit was due as he heaped praise on the team’s defense and the way Hurts managed the game.
“Big shoutout to the defense,” Barkley said. “They came out and set the tone. We don’t win that game without them. Offense, we came out. Had a game plan. We knew that the focus would be on the run game and we took advantage of it. We took advantage of it in the pass game. Jalen [Hurts] came out, played big and it took a team effort. Coaches, everyone in the Eagles organization, it takes all of us.”
By looking at those stats, it would appear that the Eagles would be getting into trouble matching up against the Kansas City Chiefs’ defense. On the contrary. With Kansas City’s defense pulling out all the stops to keep Barkley and the Eagles’ running game grounded, the game itself flipped into Philadelphia’s favor like a hiccup.
The game turned in the second quarter when the Eagles scored 17 points and pushed their lead to 24-0 by the time intermission came along. Talk about a shock.

That’s just what the entire Kansas City team must have been feeling as they went into their locker room to soak in the beating they were absorbing from the Eagles.
The two picks that Mahomes threw led directly to points for the Eagles, he admitted.
“Yeah, credit to the Eagles, man. They played better than us from start to finish,” Mahomes remarked. ‘We didn’t start how we wanted to. Obviously, the turnovers hurt, and I mean, I just gotta, I take all the blame for that.
“Those early turnovers swing the momentum of the game, and then they capitalized on them, and they scored on the one, and then they got a touchdown immediately after, so that’s 14 points that I kinda gave them, and it’s hard to come back from that in the Super Bowl, and so, just didn’t play to my standard and I have to be better next time.”

The Chiefs had won two straight titles, including beating the Eagles for the championship in 2023. The Eagles had something ready for Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. The game-changer in this game was Philadelphia’s defense, especially in the first half. The Eagles held Mahomes and Kansas City’s offense to miniscule productivity.
Mahomes and the Chiefs didn’t on the scoreboard until the game was essentially over late in the third quarter. By the time time Mahomes connected with Xavier Worthy for a 24-yard touchdown late in the third period, the Eagles were ahead 34-0. Yes, this was a soundproof butt-whupping.
Philadelphia linebacker Zack Baun, who had an interception off of Mahomes, said the Eagles were locked in as a team coming into the game.
“I told Oren Burks in the locker room before the game that I’ve never seen this team this ready for a game. We were so well prepared that it was easy for us to feel confident and were able to go out and execute,” Baun stated.
