Lakewood, CA – Mayfair High School local prep star and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive back Alterraun Verner, gave back this weekend. Verner hosted the 2014 “Verner & Friends Football & Cheer Camp.” This camp is special to him because it allows him to give back to his high school while partnering with his wife Sina’e,who does the cheer side.
The football drills were split into two large groups consisting of the high school group, and elementary/junior high group. The cheerleaders took there tumbling & dance routines to the basketball gym. All the campers appeared to have a blast with top rate coaching from Verner and Mayfair football staff. The kids who attended all had direct contact with the Pro Bowler Verner.
Verner graduated from Mayfair High School in Lakewood, CA in 2006, were he received a scholarship to attend UCLA. During his freshman year, Verner earned honors as Pac-10 Co-Freshman of the Year. His football career and education went hand and hand, graduating with a degree in mathematics/applied sciences from UCLA in 2011. The NFL came knocking in 2010 Verner was originally drafted by the Tennessee Titans as a fourth-round pick, (104th overall). This season up coming 2014 football season he will line up as one of the newest defensive backs for the Buccaneers.
It’s always great to see NFL stars doing the right things on and off the field…so remember to give high praise to the good guys.
