(News4usonline) – The Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers both had players to be voted into the NFL Pro Bowl as starters. The 2022 Pro Bowl game is scheduled to be played on Feb. 6 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
With the full rosters being announced, the NFL provided an early gift to some of its players.
Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert received the most votes from fans, players, and coaches as the top signal-caller for the Pro Bowl in the AFC. Just ahead of the Chargers playing the Houston Texans, Herbert had passed for 4,058 yards with 32 touchdowns and just 12 interceptions.
Herbert was the top vote-getter among AFC quarterbacks with 213,904 votes. Herbert, who has been named as the AFC Offensive Player of the Week three times already this season, was not the only Charger to be highlighted for his excellent play on the field.
Rookie left tackle Rashawn Slater was also tapped by fans as the best in his position. Slater, who was drafted by the Chargers in the 2021 NFL Draft in the first round, has played in every game this season is the guy chiefly responsible for protecting Herbert’s blind side. Slater collected the most votes among offensive tackles in the AFC with 83,085.
The Chargers have six players altogether who made the Pro Bowl team. Outside of Herbert and Slater, wide receiver Keenan Allen, safety Derwin James, edge rusher Joey Bosa, and center Corey Linsley made the cut. The Rams have four players on the Pro Bowl squad. Two, defensive lineman Aaron Donald and wide receiver Cooper Kupp, were voted in.
Earning his eighth Pro Bowl nod, Donald tallied 185,503 votes as the top vote-getter at his position. Kupp, who leads the NFL in receiving yards (1,625), was tapped for the first Pro Bowl of his career. Also added to the team were cornerback Jalen Ramsey and placekicker Matt Gay.
Oddly enough, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who has the third-most passing yards in the NFL (4,142 yards) and is having an MVP-type season was left off the roster for NFC quarterbacks. The signal-callers picked ahead of Stafford were Tom Brady of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals, and Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers.
