Rams’ Davante Adams is ‘rejuvenated’

Woodland Hills, CA (News4usOnline) – The big news these days around Rams camp is wide receiver Davante Adams. All eyes have been on Adams and will be for the foreseeable future ever since the team landed the six-time Pro Bowler back in March.

On Tuesday, June 10, during the Rams’ organized team activities practice, there was plenty of movement and a couple of wow moments from Adams. The vibe is high on the possibilities that Adams gives the Rams offense.

He seems to run his routes with purpose and precision. The way he goes up for the ball at its highest point is a little different. Going into his 12th season of playing in the NFL, the mercurial speed is still there.

After going from the Green Bay Packers, the Las Vegas Raiders, and the New York Jets, the hope is that Adams has found his final destination. In speaking to the reporters, Adams sounds like he is finding his groove with the team as he discussed what it’s been like working out with the other players.

“We’ve been going for a minute now, but it’s been good, man,” Adams said. “It’s been exactly what I needed, feeling rejuvenated and really enjoying the time with the guys, getting to know them, getting on the same page with [Quarterback] Matthew [Stafford], and just gelling with the whole team right now.”

“It feels like I’ve been on this team for a couple of years now just based on how open and receptive the guys have been to me. [Head Coach] Sean [McVay] has been showing a lot of love with the video to start the year, just  getting me integrated with the team and it’s been fun all around,” he added.

After departing with the beloved Cooper Kupp, the Rams moved quickly to grab the next best fit for their offense. Adams, who has made reaching 1,000 yards in receiving routine, appears to be the playmaker to flip the Rams offense from being very good to lethal.

In his last five seasons, Adams has surpassed the 1,000-yard marker with no problem. So far in his extraordinary career, Adams has a total of six years of breaking the 1,000-yard barrier.  Now that he has teamed up with quarterback Matthew Stafford, achieving 1,000 receiving yards should be as easy as saying A, B, C.

For now, Adams is more concerned about whether he and Stafford are in tune with one another. However, he won’t divulge too much of the dynamics that go on between quarterback and wide receiver.

“Well, I won’t give you too much on that because I mean, we do talk a lot, and I think it’s important to have a good connection—especially me getting here, trying to get on the same page with him. He does such a good job of communicating when I’m out there on the field as I’m going to the line on certain things.”

Adams offered an example of the way he and Stafford are quickly connecting. The pair got on the phone just to discuss a play that Adams said he saw on a video clip. Adams left impressed following that conversation with his new quarterback.

“I gave him a call because there was one where I feel like I could have made a different decision. Just the way he talks in that situation just reaffirms that anytime I have a choice or anything like that, he trusts me to make the decision. That’s the thing—you give that type of confidence and empower your players, you’ll get a good product.”

Playing with Stafford means fielding passes from a future Hall of Fame quarterback. But that’s nothing new for Adams. He spent his first eight years in the NFL being Aaron Rodgers’ top offensive target while at Green Bay. The inevitable comparison between Stafford and Rodgers is a natural one to make.

What’s the difference between the two football legends? Timing, Adans said.

“I would say the timing is probably the thing that varies the most from quarterback to quarterback,” remarked Adams. “Whether it’s the Raiders, Washington or whoever it is, it’s usually the timing. It’s not the velocity. Because if a window’s closing, a guy is not going to throw a ball with a bunch of air on it, everybody’s going to throw it a little hotter. So I’d probably say the timing, and then from there you obviously get on the same page and adjust to do whatever it takes to come down with the ball.”
