The DeSean Jackson experiment is officially over. The Los Angeles Rams have moved on to greener pastures after cutting the veteran wide receiver. Instead of the boom-boom that was expected or anticipated with Jackson’s arrival in the offseason, the three-time Pro Bowler left in a whimper.
In seven games, Jackson caught eight passes for 221 yards and one touchdown. It was not exactly the type of production the Rams were expecting from Jackson when they signed him to give the team a real vertical threat for opposing defenses to defend.
When asked to evaluate Jackson’s time with the team, Rams general manager Les Snead went the diplomatic route.
“You know, I’m not going to give it a grade,” Snead said in a Zoom press conference. “One came to my mind, but that will be the headline, right? But obviously, that was an experiment that we attempted.
“It didn’t work out as well as we wanted it to, as DeSean wanted it to, even as [head coach] Sean {McVay] wanted it to, especially those two because they have a relationship that probably goes…it does, I know for a fact that goes deeper than football. It didn’t work out for us. That is somewhat why we wanted to move in that direction.”
Where Jackson goes from here, only time will tell. Soon to be 35, Jackson is in the midst of his 14th season in the NFL. For his career, Jackson averages 17.5 yards a catch and has 10,877 yards receiving.
