LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE (News4usonline) La Canada Flintridge was home for many as families filled the lawn and dance floor.
Music in the Park
The music in the park summer concert series is an event at Memorial Park that kicks off at 6 p.m. and runs until 8:30 p.m. every Sunday night. Located in La Canada Flintridge, the park is along a hillside with a large lawn where locals can enjoy an evening of music under the stars.
Every week there is a new band being featured playing Jazz, blues, rock and roll, or reggae.
Jazzy, soulful music played this past Sunday as people set up their chairs, tables, and blankets and children ran around. Families brought their own drinks and snacks as they settled to enjoy the music. The local high school band set up a tent to sell goods for fundraising. This is to the guests’ benefit as they offered soft drinks, homemade baked goods, and snacks for attendees to buy, and the opportunity to support the students.
The main stage is a gazebo construction and hooked up with beautiful lights that accentuate the structure as the sunsets. The stage is located at the corner of the park and has high visibility at any location.

There are two main speakers at the front and another four speakers located around the walkways so the music can be easily heard around the park. There is also plenty of lighting set up around Memorial Park so guests can feel comfortable dancing anywhere on the lawn.
There are only a few concerts remaining this summer, so catch a concert while you still can. On Aug. 28, there will be a special movie “Luca” in the park at 8:30 after the concert. This is a great opportunity to bring kids and family for a free extended evening of fun.
Rhythm Krewe (formerly Floyd & the Flyboys)
On July 31, attendees were entertained with R&B and blues by Rythem Krewe. Formerly known as Floyd & the Flyboys, the group has been together for 31 years. They played classics from artists like James Brown, Stevie Wonder, and Ray Charles. The band even played some of their own originals, including Unfinished Business and Soul Vaccination.
The band decided to go with the name Rhythm Krewe this past year, as they used to go by this name without the horns in the past. They are currently a nine-piece band consisting of piano, horns, drums, guitar, and bass.
“We’ve played here a few times over the years, ” said Steve Zelmen, lead guitarist and vocalist. “We played here last year and maybe 10 years before that and another 10 years before that (laughing), it’s been a long time.”
The band will be in Ventura County this upcoming weekend for the Music Under the Stars Concert. Unfortunately, the event is already sold out for any interested guests.
