Thursday’s Truths: A Rejuvenated Michael Vick

Michael Vick looks ready to do his thing in 2013.

How is it that Michael Vick is in the same conversation as the person who created the infamous butt fumble in Mark Sanchez? There is nothing any one can tell me to justify why Vick has to compete for the starting position as quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles.

What has Nick Foles done to prove he can snatch the job from the former number one pick overall pick? In Vick’s first full season with the Eagles he led them to the playoffs and then turned around and signed a $100 million dollar contract.

You don’t sign a guy that kind of money and not trust that he can lead your team for the future. Just a few seasons away from the game of football and he was already competing to be on the cover of the legendary football video game “John Madden.”

Sanchez’s starting position is on the line for having multiple failed opportunities as the franchise quarterback and yet still manages to play poorly. Just recently in the 2012-2013 NFL seasons he led the league in turnovers.

He was surrounded by talent in college while playing for USC and in my opinion, was always handed success like all quarterbacks of Troy. Sanchez has never played up to expectations since he’s been playing for the New York Jets and should at best be a backup QB in the NFL.

Not to just throw Sanchez under the bus because there is a long list of quarterbacks that should have to look over their shoulder instead of Vick. Tony Romo, Philip Rivers, Carson Palmer, Chad Henne, Sam Bradford, Christian Ponder and even former Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger, played worst than Vick last season.

Nevertheless, these players are secure in their position and I can’t figure out why. Vick has always been critized for being a mobile quarterback while Aaron Rogers is celebrated for being a dual threat to the defense.

It has been said that Vick holds the ball too long. But when Roethlisberger does the same thing it is said he is buying time for his receivers. It’s time for all the hate that surrounds Michael Vick to come to an end.

He is a man that is a great leader on and off the football field, who carries himself in with humility and discernment. With that being said, Vick should be protected on and off the field. On the field, I don’t see nearly the amount of protection Vick get as quarterbacks Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.

Where are the yellow flags? Off the field, the media still attack him for their own personal disagreements about his past. Leave the man alone and let him play football.

Before it is all said and done, Vick will silence he’s critics and he will win a Super Bowl. People say he can’t last a full season. But I say just like Jackie Robinson, Vick is built to last. And like Jackie, Vick will go down as one of the greatest.
