(News4usonline) – The Black population in the United States is growing. According to a study released by the Pew Research Center that was made available in early March, the Black population rose 30 percent from 2000 to 2021. In 2000, the estimated number of Blacks living in the U.S. was put at 36.2 million.
The Pew Research Center’s data shows that the number of Black folks has increased to 47.2 million as of 2021. That’s a growth of more than 10 million people. Helping to spur that growth surge is the number of foreign-born Blacks. As of 2021, there were 4.8 million foreign-born Black people living in the U.S. That number doubled from what it was in 2000.

That year, there were 2.4 million foreign-born Blacks here in the country. Perhaps even more significant for the overall booming Black population is that it appears that this demographic will grow even more in the near future. That’s because close to half of the Black population (45%) in the U.S. fall under 30. Interestingly enough, the larger makeup of the Black population is single.
According to the data provided by the Pew Research Center, single, non-Hispanic Blacks make up 39.3 million of the 47.2 million Black people. That’s roughly just over 83 percent. In other words, the future for the growth of the Black population appears to be ticking upward. When it comes to who is running the households for Black families it’s usually married couples.
Married couples make up the majority of households where Black people live, coming in at 39 percent or roughly 17.7 million folks. The next group to house Black people are those headed or run by women (31 %) or 14.3 million. Now here comes the fun part, and that is where Black people live. The South dominates this part of the conversation. At least on paper.
The Pew Research Center, according to its study, says that the majority of Black people live in the South. That survey revealed that 56 percent of all Black people in the United States live or reside in the South. The number of Black people living in the Midwest is at 17 percent. The Northeast number is also at 17 percent What is surprising is the lack of Black people in the western part of the country.

Ten percent is the number of Back people that live out West. This includes states like California, Oregon, Nevada, and Washington. With the biggest percentage of Blacks living in the South that also means that the numbers per state are going to be greater as well. Texas is at the front of the line in that category with 4 million Black Americans living in the state. Florida (3.8 million) and Georgia (3.6) round out the Top Three states where Blacks live.
One group that has jumped leaps and bounds within the Black community is the multiracial non-Hispanic population. The study reveals that the multiracial non-Hispanic population grew from 1.5 million in 2000 to 5.2 million people in 2021, a staggering increase of 238 percent.
The multiracial non-Hispanic group account for 11 percent of the Black population, the report states. The Black Hispanic population is another group where a wide swath of growth took place in the last two decades, increasing by as much as 191 percent. This area of the Black community grew from 960,000 in 2000 to 2.8 million by the time 2021 rolled around, the study shows.
