The 100th Rose Bowl Game presented by Vizio is the perfect example of the immovable objects going up against the irresistible force. Brute strength matching up with speed and guile. This is what we have between Michigan State and Stanford. Michigan State earned its trip to Pasadena by whipping the then unbeaten and No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes.
Stanford has been a model of consistency the past few years under coach David Shaw, whose philosophy of punishing opponents with physical play, got the Cardinals into the Rose Bowl another year. Now the matchup is set between two teams with opposite agendas on the field.
Stanford, led by the down hill running of Tyler Gaffney, wants to get physical at the line of scrimmage. Michigan, on the other hand, has the tools on defense, to put a halt to Gaffney slipping and sliding all over the place. even without its All-American stud on defense-linebacker Max Bullough-the Spartans can bring the pain with Jim Thorpe Award winner Darqueze Dennard and linebacker Denicos Allen on the field.

Both teams have speed burners. The Cardinals can turn to Gaffney, who rushed for over 1,600 yards this season, or try to get the ball into the hands of speedster Ty Montgomery. On the flip side of the coin, the Spartans will counter with running back Jeremy Langford to make things happen. This should be one of the more compelling Rose Bowl games to be played as the No. 4 and No. 5 teams battle.
