A give back cause for Coppin State women’s sports teams

BALTIMORE, Md. – Several members of the Coppin State University women’s basketball and bowling teams volunteered their time at the Maryland Food Bank this weekend. The student-athletes were responsible for packaging food in categorized boxes and stocking of the distribution warehouse.

“The young ladies enjoyed the opportunity to give back to the community,” said women’s basketball head coach DeWayne Burroughs. “Working at the Maryland Food Bank gave them an opportunity to give back and prepare meals for individuals that may not be able to purchase or prepare their own meals. The ladies are looking forward to returning to the Maryland Food Bank.”

The Maryland Food Bank’s mission is to ‘lead the movement and nurture the belief that together we can improve the lives of Marylanders by ending hunger.’ For more than 35 years, it has partnered with various communities across the State to distribute food to individuals and families in need, becoming the leading anti-hunger organization in the State. Currently, one out of every nine Marylanders is food insecure, or approximately 682,000 people.
