LOS ANGELES-Jackie, we never forget. Major League baseball and the Los Angeles Dodgers have made sure that future generations will know the nam of Jackie Robinson, the man responsible for bringing down the racial wall in sports. Therefore, the honor of celebration of Robinson has sort of been etched in stone, rather in material, as all ballclubs under MLB wear the No. 42 once every year to pay homage to the Brookyln Dodgers hero.
Ceasar Ravine played host to the MLB’s Civil Rights Game with the Dodgers coming out on top against the Seattle Mariners with a 5-2 win. But before the Dodgers lit up the Mariners with five runs through the first three innings, there was the celebration of Jackie Robinson Day that preceded the game. It was a grand celebration that Robinson would have been proud of as his widow, Rachel Robinson entered the stadium arm and arm with the great Sandy Koufax.
Frank Robinson, the first black manager in the big leagues was honored. Tyrese Gibson (Furious 5) sung the national anthem and appearances by Don Newcombe, Magic Johnson and Kenny Smith made the celebration worthwhile.
