The year that just keeps giving. The Los Angeles Dodgers are in the World Series. Despite the Atlanta Braves jumping out to a 3-1 lead on them in the NLCS, the Dodgers rallied from that deficit to earn a trip to the championship round. Two games in, the Dodgers are fit to be tied with the Tampa Bay Rays (1-1) in the 2020 World Series.
If you’re a Dodgers fan, you’re just glad of the fact there’s World Series to be played in the first place. Many fans thought this baseball season would be cut short – without a possibility of a World Series.
Not only were fans surprised, excited, and looking forward to a semi-completed season and postseason from Major League Baseball (MLB), LA fans got some gratification from the fact that the Boys in Blue would be representing the National League in the World Series for the third time in four years.
The fact that the Dodgers would have to wait until the middle of October to claim victory in winning the NLCS Championship is irrelevant. But it was muted for a while for Dodgers and their fans. When the Braves rolled out to their two-game lead in the NLCS, there wasn’t much to jump up and down about. By the time the Dodgers and Braves met in Game 7, Los Angeles had managed to put the buzz back into the series.
When the Braves jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in Game 7, it was an uh-oh moment for Dodgers fans. But as they have done throughout the season and playoffs, the Dodgers used their bats to rally. Cody Bellinger did the honors of knocking the Braves out of World Series contention with a late-game home run to clinch the team’s 4-3 win in Game 7.
Game 7 was nerve-wracking. What felt like hours of deep breaths and constant nervous snacking throughout, the Dodgers closed out Game 7 and the series with a win. Tensions ran high in the final two innings as Julio Urias closed the game out for the Dodgers to secure the team’s appearance against the Rays. Now it’s World Series glory for the Dodgers and their fans to experience.
As we reach the end of the month, we’ll have to wait and see what the end of October will bring us. By that time, the Dodgers will either be celebrating their first World Series win since 1981 or this season will end in another round of disappointment. Meanwhile, Dodgers fans are just pumped for the moment at having to enjoy another World Series, taking in Game 1 with cocky enthusiasm, almost as if the team’s appearance is supposed to be an annual ritual.
Tuesday night brought the Dodgers once again to Arlington Texas Globe Life Field for Game 1 of the World Series Rays. The game flipped in favor of the Dodgers. Dodgers fans on the SoCal scene seemed to be much calmer than all the nervous twitching and worrying they were doing in Game 7 of the NLCS.
Los Angeles knocked in eight runs. It was a joyous ride for the Dodgers on their way to a big offensive evening, poking a little bit of fun at Taco Bell’s “Steal a Base, Steal a Taco” promotion.
Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts literally stole the show in Game 1 against the Rays. Betts had two stolen bases and a home run to lead the Dodgers to a eight-run scoring outburst during their 8-3 Game 1 victory. As a team, the Dodgers produced three stolen bases against the Rays in Game 1.
Fans were quick to share their love with Betts as he brought his infectious smile to the outfield. Game 1 was an easy win for the Dodgers, although there were some nervous moments late in the game as the Rays tried to rally with a couple of runs. At that point, it was clear that the goal for the Dodgers was to maintain the lead at where it was and lock in a Game 1 victory. The Dodgers were successful in doing that. Now they’ll have to duplicate their Game 1 win three more times in order to win the World Series.
