(News4usOnline) – This week is the official kickoff to the beginning of the 2025 NFL regular season. Like every season, questions abound around who the best players are, what coaches are on the hot seat, and who will walk off with a Super Bowl crown.
That’s simple enough. The Philadelphia Eagles begin defending their championship with a game on Thursday Night Football against their NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys. For the hype, the game is worth the price of admission.
The Eagles and Cowboys are two of the league’s biggest rivals. The Cowboys have reveled in the adulation and popularity of being dubbed “America’s Team” for nearly three decades. However, Dallas has not won a Super Bowl since 1995.

The Eagles, on the other hand, have made two Super Bowl appearances in the last three years and are coming off kicking the Kansas City Chiefs to the curb in a 40-22 win in Super Bowl LIX.
The Cowboys have the history. The Eagles are the team that’s relevant now. The Cowboys are relics of the past, basking in the team and franchise glory of yesterday. Sure, the Cowboys have had stars grace The Star since the team’s last Super Bowl victory, but they have flamed out when it has mattered most.
The Cowboys used to be a systematic machine that operated at the highest level of the NFL. Now, the franchise has been regulated to manufacture headlines by any means necessary. The club itself has been nothing but a mockery of what the organization has been in the past.
This is a mediocre team, at best. And has been for years. And yet, for reasons unbeknownst to me, the media treats the Cowboys as if they are one of the better teams in the league-year in and year out. Nothing could be further from the truth.
What the Cowboys are masters at is marketing and promoting their products to take away the sting of the mediocrity of the football team. The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, the globally revered dance troupe, would be a clear example of this.
To get a better look at the direction of both the Cowboys and the Eagles, all one has to do is monitor the achievements of the quarterbacks on the two teams. Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott is playing his 10th season in the NFL.
By all accounts, Prescott has had a relatively successful career with over 31,000 (31,437) yards and 213 touchdowns. In 122 games, Prescott has posted a 76-46 record (prior to the 2025 season). That’s not bad at all.

However, what Prescott has done in the regular season has not carried over into the postseason. Prescott has a 2-5 mark in the playoffs and has never played beyond the divisional round. That equates to a 28 percent in winning games once he gets past the regular season.
On the other side of the ball, Eagles signal-caller Jalen Hurts has taken his franchise to new heights, leading his team to multiple Super Bowl appearances and winning it all this past February (Super Bowl LIX). Hurts accomplished all of this in his first five years in the league.
Going into Year 6, Hurts has an opportunity to take the Eagles to back-to-back Super Bowls. One of the factors into the Eagles and Cowboys moving in different directions could be seen as a reflection of the front office.
The Cowboys, fresh off trading star defensive player Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, seem to play on distraction and chaos themes most of the time. Perhaps this strategy will work this season. It hasn’t so far. The Eagles, with Hurts leading the team, run with little or no drama.
You might call the Eagles the bland superteam. Little fanfare and team unity. This seems to work for the Super Bowl champs. The Cowboys could learn a lesson or two from their divisional foe on how to navigate a pathway to the top.
