WASHINGTON – Howard University media, journalism, and film major rising senior Monét Bowen resumed the 2020-21 Senior Spotlight series with a graduate edition, featuring track teammate Mekhi Closson (Baltimore).
Q: What is your favorite part about track?
A: My favorite part about track was the laughter with my teammates while competing in the sport.
Q: How did you get started in track?
A: When I was a kid, I got started with my mom signing me for a run club team. I didn’t really like it, so I stopped running.
Once I started high school, I got back into track and ran indoors my first two years because I played lacrosse as well. At the beginning of my junior year, I gave up lacrosse and fully committed to track.
Q: What kept you motivated?
A: I had a desire to break records and make a name for myself. I wanted to show people that you can achieve anything, if you are willing to put in the work and make sacrifices.
Q: If you were not competing in track, what other sport would you do?
A: If I wasn’t running track, I would still be playing lacrosse.
Q: Who is your favorite athlete and why?
A: He isn’t exactly an athlete, but my favorite athletic person is David Goggins (American ultramarathon runner) because he’s the closest thing to a superhero.
Q: What’s your favorite memory at Howard?
A: My favorite memory at Howard was my first homecoming.
Q: Plans after graduation?
A: I will be working as a software engineer at Progressive Leasing.
Q: What or who will you miss at Howard?
A: I’ll miss everyone equally.
Q: What advice would you give future Bison?
A: My advice would be to establish a strong foundation in order to achieve your goals.
Also, plan accordingly and understand what you will need to accomplish those goals so you can be successful.
Q: Who would you like to thank?
A: I would like to thank my coaches, teammates, faculty, staff and the entire Howard University community.
