Anaheim, CA (News4usonline) – Before one pitch was thrown at Angel Stadium, the Los Angeles Angels had made national news.
And not for the obvious reason of having the storied franchise of the New York Yankees being in town to play the second of a three-game series against the American League West ballclub.
The game itself was a pretty good one to watch if you’re a baseball fan. The Yankees jumped all over the Angels in the first inning, scoring three runs off the bats of two home runs. The Bronx Bombers didn’t look back.

Sure, the Angels showed showed some tenacity, drawing within a one of New York before LA watched the Yankees kick their offense into another gear. The Yankees scored three late runs in the eighth and ninth innings to pull away with a 7-3 win.
Going up against New York star pitcher Gerrit Cole, Angels manager Kurt Suzuki liked the way his club competed.
“I thought we had some good at-bats,” Suzuki said afterward during a press conference interview. “Obviously, a very elite pitcher. I thought the at-bats were good.”
Turns out that the Yankees-Angels matchup was a mere sideshow to the gainer news of the Angels being sold to someone not named Arte Moreno. The real news took place off the field.
Before the Angels and Yankees squared off in their second game of the series, word came down that the Orange County-based baseball team would no longer be wholly controlled by Moreno.
Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, an entity controlled by Los Angeles Rams owner E. Stanley Kroenke, had agreed in principle to have a controlling interest in the Angels.
“The Angels are a storied franchise anchored in a great market. We look forward to an exciting future with the Angels organization,” Kroenke said in a released statement.

The move to acquire the Angels expands Kroenke’s vast empire. His company built SoFi Stadium and developed the land the once occupied the old race thoroughfare Hollywood Park.
Now with SoFi Stadium and a completely renovated landscape around Hollywood Park, the area has become a prime destination for sports and entertainment. The LA28 Summer Olympics will host several sports at the popular venue.
According to the Land Report, Kroenke is the largest landowner of private property in the United States with a total of 2.7 million acres of that crosses Texas, Nevada and Wyoming. Kroenke ranks No. 1 in the Land Report’s Top 100 landowner list.
As a real estate mogul, Kroenke has been able to parlay that wealth into purchasing and building up his impressive sports billfold. Aside from owning the Rams, Kroenke also owns the NBA’s Denver Nuggets and several other sports league teams, including the Colorado Avalanche (NHL), Colorado Rapids (MLS), and Colorado Mammoth (NLL).
When spring 2027 rolls around, Kroenke will officially add the Angels, which was priced at $2.7 billion in worth, according to the CNBC’s 2026 MLB valuations, to his ever-widening list of purchasing sports teams.
“The Angels Organization is pleased to announce this transaction with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment. The Moreno Family has been honored to steward the Angels for 23 years and we believe with KSE’s experience and success they are the best next owner for the franchise.
The Angels Organization looks forward to continuing its commitment to the fans, our employees, the players and our business partners,” said current Angels owner Arte Moreno.
The sale of the Angels still has to reach final approval from Major League Baseball and will not close until early 2027.
