Vanessa Williams Still Rolling Along

The ABC hit comedy, “Desperate Housewives,” is on its last legs. The cast of the show are pretty much in mourning at the ending of the long-running series. Unfortunately, television won’t be the same without standout actress and singer Vanessa Williams’ Renee Perry character to fuss at.

But don’t worry TV fans, Williams has a habit of showing in places unlikely for to show up at and taking over a show with her gifted multi-faceted talents.

Williams’ sheer presence as Wilhelmina Slate on “Ugly Betty” for four years before she joined the “Desperate Housewives” cast, gave her instant credibility. Now that “Desperate Housewives” is in its final throes, Williams and other cast members have go out and find another gig. It shouldn’t be too hard for Williams to land something. She’s still breathtaking beautiful. She can certainly act. And she still has those famous pipes that have helped her to sell millions of CDs and albums and earned her multiple Grammy Awards nods.

Since coming to work on the set of “Desperate Housewives,” Williams have felt right at home. That comfort will soon pass. Williams, who is nominated for an NAACP Image Award this year for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series category, talked about her experience on the show during the Disney/ABC 2012 Winter Press Tour at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena, California. It was beautiful from beginning to the end because of the welcoming spirit from the entire cast of the show, she said.

“They have welcomed me from the get go, and the fans have embraced my character immediately too,” Williams said. “It’s been really seamless, and I think that’s been the true joy.  I haven’t really had to hammer my ?? a new character down people’s throats.  They accepted it, and they felt that I belonged.  So I’m going to miss the camaraderie.  I hope us all stay friends.  And it’s like its own little village.  It’s community.”

Williams, who recently co-hosted the 43rd NAACP Image Awards nominations ceremony in Beverly Hills with Trace Ellis Ross, was asked during the Disney/ABC Winter Press Tour how much she would miss working with the others on the show. Camaraderie is the one thing that she will miss the most.

“I’ve mentioned this, but one of the most touching moments on the set was when our set dresser/prop person asked one of the extras to marry him,” Williams said.”And he did it at a church and we were all ?? he asked all the cast to come in, so we were part of his family and he asked her to ?? got on his knees and flew her family in and had a turn around and we were all in tears and we all had a collective familial experience because it was a community, and that’s one of my favorite, favorite moments from being a part of this family.”
