Houston- Chris Paul took home his first All-Star MVP trophy and it wasn’t on purpose. He just went out there and did what he does on a regular, making plays and winning games.
Paul continues to make history with the Los Angeles Clippers. He was the first player to win the award within the organization, and also just the third player to have 20 points and 15 assists in the once a year showcase; joining retired NBA players Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas.
“Pretty special,” Paul said. “It’s something I’ve never done and it’s something that I definitely, coming into the game, I wasn’t trying to achieve or thinking that it might be possible.”
Paul was the hero of the game and one of the main reasons the West was able to defeat the East 143-138 on Sunday night in Houston. With so many superstars and talent playing in one game you can never predict who’ll walk away as MVP. Kevin Durant dropped in 30 points, and entertained the crowd with his uncontested dunks; but it wasn’t enough to outshine Paul’s performance.
“In games like this, it’s so up-tempo and fast-paced,” Paul said. “A guy like me, that’s a facilitator, I enjoy (it).”
Is it finally time to crown Paul as the solely best point guard in the league? He’s already showed, proved and earned his respect. Although he has yet to win a championship, he has shown signs that he’ll retire with a ring. His future is most definitely shining bright.
Over on the Eastside Carmelo Anthony brought his game A with him to Houston, leading all scorers in the Eastern Conference with 26 points. Lebron James finished the night with 19 points and five assists.
It was nice to witness the commodity between players on the East and West. Fans don’t get to see players laughing and joking around with each other throughout the season because of the tough competitiveness during the regular season.
Celebrities in the entertainment business also held their own All-Star lineup on the floor. Superstars Jayz, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Spike Lee, Drake, Nas, Chris Brown and many more were in attendance to cheer the NBA All-Stars on.
Now that the much talked about All-Star Game is out of the way, we can get back to focusing on the Eastern and Western Conference race to the playoffs. It’s looking pretty solid for the Clippers, but it’s a little shaky for their neighbors the Los Angeles Lakers who’s surprisingly in 10th place in the West.
