Pasadena, Calif. (News4usOnline) – Former Vice President Kamala Harris may have lost her bid for the presidency in the 2024 general election, but during a monologue during the 56th NAACP Image Awards, she showed she has not lost her swag.
In accepting the Chairman’s Award during the civil rights organization’s entertainment branch awards show, Harris gave a forceful verbal pushback to the fearmongers and haters of all things equality with a blistering and pointed delivery of a speech that was meant to inspire, encourage and uplift.
And she did not mince her words.
“As the saying goes, eternal vigilance is the price of liberty,” Harris said. “The price of liberty…to stay alert, to seek the truth, and to actively participate in the fight for America’s future. This organization came into being at a moment when our country struggled with greed, bitterness and hatred.”

Harris was bestowed the Chairman’s Award at the 2025 NAACP Image Awards. And rightly so. Harris is a trailblazer in every sense of the world. She is a former prosecutor who climbed the ladder to attorney general for California.
Harris then made her way to becoming a U.S. Senator before being selected by Joe Biden to be his vice president. That distinction makes her the first woman and female of color to serve as vice president.
And while she didn’t quite make it to the perch of the presidency of the United States after coming up short in the 2024 general election, Harris has served as a beacon of hope for millions of people who believe in her America.
She may have expanded her street cred a little more by attending the live show of the 56th Image Awards and being generous with her time to go backstage to take photos and share her warm and infectious smile as media members maneuvered around one another looking to capture images of the Howard University alum.
The moment for Harris and the NAACP Image Awards audience was the moment, though, when she took the stage to receive her honor. In her usual eloquent way, Harris didn’t hold back during her acceptance speech on the challenges that America is facing today.
“Those who forged the NAACP, those who carried its legacy forward, had no illusions about the forces that they were up against, no illusions about how stony the road would be,” Harris said.
“But some look at this moment and rightly feel the weight of history. Some see the flames on our horizon, the rising waters in our cities, the shadows gathering over our democracy and ask, ‘What do we do now?’ But we know exactly what to do because we have done it before and we will do it again. We use our power. We organize, mobilize. We educate and we advocate,” she went on to say.
Of course, Harris saved the best for last drawing on the strength of the forefathers and mothers to sound the wake-up people button.
“Our power has never come from having an easy path,” Harris said. “Our strength flows from our faith…faith in God, faith in each other and our refusal to surrender to cynicism and destruction, not because it is easy but because it is necessary, not because victory is guaranteed but because the fight is worth it.”
