A game that was unexpectedly moved to the Coliseum due to poor field conditions at the planned Mexico City venue turned into an emotional civic rallying point and a historic match-up between the Rams and the Chiefs, both 9-1. LOS ANGELES, CA-The Los Angeles Clippers are having the type of season that may be a surprise to some people. Well, a lot of people. It’s easy to see why. A year ago after trading away Blake Griffin, the Clippers finished the season 10th in the Western Conference. There was no big-time free agents that the team was able to gobble up during the summer. So when they began the 2018-19 NBA season, the Clippers were probably the most faceless recognizable team in the league. The big names that once occupied space on the Clippers’ roster became a trivia question.…

Peele, addressing students after the screening, said he uses symbolism in movies to disrupt conventional images of African Americans. “It starts breaking down the boxes we are relegated to,” Peele told students. “Howard is dope. Howard is iconic. It’s one of…

It’s no big secret that college basketball is largely dominated by the East Coast and the Upper Midwest. Villanova, North Carolina, Duke, Michigan State, Kansas, and Kentucky have pretty much undeniably been the top programs of the decade, and in some cases of all of college basketball history. And with the slight exception of Kansas, they all fall into these regions – as to occasional powers like Michigan, Indiana, Virginia, Georgetown, Syracuse, and others. It’s simply how the sport seems to be arranged, just as football is strongest in the limited regions of the Deep South and Midwest. For much…

King, a Howard University School of Law alumnus who has risen to prominence in Hollywood, told the story of his journey from Hollywood agency mailroom to entertainment company CEO at this year’s Charter Day Convocation. “Upon graduation, I had a ten-year plan: one day be at the helm of an integrated media company,” King said. “When I graduated, I journeyed to Hollywood without a car, a job, and without a computer, and six figures in student loans.” He landed in the mailroom of William Morris Endeavor talent agency. In a short period, King rose to senior agent…

Hatchett, star of long-running television show Judge Hatchett, announced up front that hers wouldn’t be a traditional black history month speech. Rather, it would be a challenge. “We are a people who survived the outrageous horrible days of slavery,” Hatchett said. “We have seen difficult times before.” Hatchett noted statistics about the incarceration of African-Americans, citing disparity in the state prison rate across the nation. Hatchett also encouraged students to reach out to someone…

Harris (D-CA) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) reintroduced a bill to reauthorize the Historically Black College and Universities (HBCU) Historic Preservation Program for fiscal years 2019 to 2025. The bill would authorize funding for grants to restore these historic buildings and sites, as well as improve accessibility on many HBCU campuses. The bill is a Senate companion of House…
