Dodgers continue their remarkable season

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (News4usonline) – The Los Angeles Dodgers are doing so well this season that it has become almost expected that they perform at a high level. They have a pile of wins. They have the best record in baseball. No other team is close to what the Boys in Blue have done in 2022. Right now, the Dodgers lead the NL West by almost 20 games.

Could this be the Dodgers’ year to win another title? Maybe. It certainly looks like it. The Dodgers have been so dominant that they have nearly 70 percent of their games this season.

The Dodgers have played exceptionally well over the past two months. In July, the Dodgers started the month off going 9-1. They would eventually go 21-5. The team got off to another scorching start in August, winning their first 11 games.

This season, the Dodgers have scored the most runs in the majors (675 and counting) and have allowed the fewest runs (397). At the pace they are going, the Dodgers have an outside chance to win as many as 113 games, according to mlb.

If the Dodgers were able to achieve this feat, they would be knocking at the doorstep of the New York Yankees record from the 1998 season (114 wins) and bypass the 1954 Cleveland Indians’ 111- 43 mark. The Dodgers are winning games this season at a .697 winning percentage clip. If they keep up their winning ways, the Dodgers just might overcome the Yankees mark.

The play of Mookie Betts and Trea Turner exemplifies how great the Dodgers have been this season. Betts has popped 31 home runs and has scored 100 runs with more than a month left in the regular season. Those are insane numbers. Right now, Betts is looking like the National League’s MVP.

Turner should be right behind his teammate in the MVP conversation. He has been on fire with his bat, hitting above .300 (.308) and driving in 86 runs. Again, this is with more than a month left in the season.

Betts and Turner have helped the Dodgers compensate for the numerous injuries that have beset the team’s pitching rotation. Ace Clayton Kershaw and starter Dustin May have been set back because of multiple maladies. And the team got the bad news that Walker Buehler is lost for the season. And yet, the Dodgers continue to thrive.

May made a return after recovering from his injury against the Miami Marlins on Aug. 21 and shut out the visitors from Florida for five scoreless innings in an eventual 10-3 win by the Dodgers.

The Dodgers have been the best and most consistent team in the major leagues since 2006. Since then, with the exception of 2020, the Dodgers have won 80 games or more every year.  During that time, the team won 10 division titles.

Since 2016, the Dodgers have won 90 games or more every year with the exception of 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic shut down America and the rest of the world. The team reached that mark again with a 4-3 road win against the New York Mets on Aug. 30.

After winning the championship in 2020, the Dodgers are looking for another ring. This could be the year. By winning most of the games that they have won this season without the services of Kershaw, May and now Buehler, is quite remarkable and shows the team’s resiliency and greatness.

If the Dodgers can overcome some of the speed bumps thrown their way this season, a World Series appearance should not be too far off on the horizon.
