Dorsey High School finished third in the Coliseum League this year. But it doesn’t matter at this point in the season as the Dons took one step toward getting into the state playoffs after snatching a 59-56 overtime win on the road against Washington High School Monday night. The CIF-LA City Division I state play-in contest between the Dons and the Generals assures the winner, which happens to be Dorsey, of playing another round to try to advance to the state tournament.
Dorsey now play Palisades on Wednesday. The winner of that game will have a shot at making the state tourney. As it is, Dorsey, clawed its way out of a deficit to send the game into overtime where the Dons converted two huge 3-pointers at the end of the game to close out their run. Prior to playing Washington, Dorsey had fell to Fairfax in the CIF LA City playoffs.
Washington, which came in second in the Marine League to Narbonne, suffered a defeat to El Camino Real before going up against Dorsey in this game. And it was a good one as both teams fought with the desperation that comes with a one-and-done deal the postseason offers. Whenever one team made a run the other would answer right back. Unfortunately for the Generals, the Dons had the last say in this contest.
