Fresno State men’s basketball in hot water

(News4usOnline) – The Fresno State men’s basketball team could be in legal trouble. Though their season has been completed, the team is currently under investigation by the NCAA and the program’s school with allegations of betting by some of its players.

According to reports, several Fresno State men’s basketball players have been accused of gambling by betting on games. Players are not allowed to bet on themselves and other athletes.

According to the  NCAA, “NCAA rules ban participation in sports betting activities and prohibit providing information to individuals involved in or associated with any type of sports betting activities concerning intercollegiate, amateur or professional athletics competition”.

The players in question from the Fresno State men’s basketball team allegedly put their bets on their own themselves (stats on points and rebounds) because they know how they’re playing in the game.

The players allegedly involved in the gambling scandal are Mykell Robinson, Jalen Weaver, and Zaon Collins. That’s not the only trouble Fresno State is having at the moment.

According to sources, multiple players have made a beeline out of the men’s basketball program and have entered the transfer portal. According to 247Sports, as many as 10 players from the Fresno State men’s basketball team went into the transfer portal.

Before the game against Air Force earlier this season, Weaver and Collins were the top scorers for Fresno State. Weaver averaged 12.5 points a game while Collins made 12 points per contest. Collins also contributed 4.7 assists per game and led the team in that category.

Robinson had a total of 10.3 points and 6.2 rebounds when he played his last game in January.

Robinson has been removed from the Bulldogs and is being investigated by the NCAA. Weaver and Collins were suspended from the team, reports stated.

According to ESPN, Weaver said, “I just made a bad decision, and I shouldn’t even have gotten involved with that. Now, I’m obviously paying for it.  I bet on a game I played in, but I never tried to sabotage the season. I never bet on us to lose, never bet my unders.”

Gambling scandals have also been happening to other college basketball teams like Temple Owls, Eastern Michigan, North Carolina A&T, Mississippi Valley and New Orleans in the previous seasons, said ESPN

Hopefully, there will be no more issues with Fresno State men’s basketball team now that Weaver, Collins and Robinson won’t be part of the team anymore due to their legal problems.

Only seven players went to the game against Air Force on Feb. 22.

It is also Fresno State’s worst season, with 6 wins and 26 losses. At one point in the season, Fresno State lost 10 games straight. The Bulldogs went 2-18 in Mountain West Conference play and got smacked by Nevada on March 12 to end their season.
