Hip-hop and beautiful music grace Leimert Park

LOS ANGELES (News4usonline) – The 6th Annual Music N’ Media Festival on July 16, was a successful weekend event. The Leimert Park Plaza was an attraction that spanned past the entrance booth and out into the streets.

From food and drink vendors, locals and visitors alike, they filled the block on W 43rd Pl. and Degnan Blvd. in South Los Angeles on Saturday. There were three main areas people hung out, the festival plaza, the park next to the plaza, and on Degnan. Kids were seen in the park playing with water guns and water balloons. The entire area was filled with good vibes in the air.

The festival was a nine-hour event that spanned from noon to 9 p.m. The sound of the performers could be heard from all the surrounding streets. The festival had a constant stream of performers with people singing and dancing around the main stage. The music ran at a good pace with artists not performing for more than 10 minutes at a time. This kept the music fresh with a constant rotation of new artists and styles.

The festival was thrown by Nina Deuce and Khrissy B, with the outdoor event being hosted by DJ Battle Cat and Emcee Classiq. Some of the performers included Eric Tucker, Kuntry Kali, Justin Sky, and Topic 626. The event hosted over 15 vendors for guests to choose from to fulfill all their needs.

The park plaza usually offers free events on weekends for locals to enjoy music and food, and so that they have a good time. Food trucks dished up a variety of food options and a diverse lineup of vendors offering cannabis products, arts and crafts, and clothing were among those that set up tents to serve those in attendance.

Down the street outside of the event, the beloved Eso Won Books, a longtime literary haven, was having its own event. The store is unfortunately in the stages of closing and shutting its doors. This beloved bookstore has been part of Los Angeles for over three decades and Leimert Park for over a decade.

The event was to help sell what is left of their inventory. Books offered by the store follow black cultural heritage and many pieces of literature for all ages.

A special guest at the bookstore was Congress member Karen Bass.

“I have been a supporter of Eso Won Bookstore for more years than I can remember.” said the Los Angeles mayoral candidate.  “But you know it’s sad because it looks like they are gonna close but on the other hand we had so much community support today.”

The community in the Leimert Park area reaches far and wide, it was nice to see people funnel in from the music festival and support their local businesses. It was a beautiful day in Leimert Park, celebrated with high energy with neighbors and friends.
